Meeting 1: Workshop exercises

Meeting 1: workshop

Deliverable: Eight lexical-decision task rows, with fixation and a saved export. Work from materials/workshop-starter/; attempt the core tasks before consulting the released reference solution. Pair work is encouraged; switch driver/navigator roles halfway.

W1. One item (15 min)

Run the starter with one item. Identify text, category, expected response, and observed response. Check F = word and J = nonword.

W2. Eight items and fixation (25 min)

Replace the one-item slice with all TEST_STIMULI. Insert fixation before each trial. Keep the loop; timeline variables belong to Meeting 2.

W3. Inspect and explain (20 min)

Run one valid word/nonword response and one timeout. Download CSV and JSON. Verify eight task rows and eight fixation rows, plus instructions. Explain one item limitation.

Acceptance checks

17 total rows in the workshop: 1 instruction + 8 fixation + 8 response. The finish panel adds no row. Correctness is not scored automatically in Meeting 1. IDs and expected keys are recorded for later checks.

Save the source and one clearly labeled self/synthetic pilot export. This in-class work is formative; graded homework has a separate brief and may require more items.

If you finish early

Ask students to add a second instruction screen or justify alternative language stimuli. Require an explanation of familiarity and length confounds.

Exit ticket

Explain a plugin/trial/timeline; identify one task row and one missing-response row.
