Meeting 3: live coding
Work in materials/live-starter/ using the root launch page. The starter runs at its first checkpoint. Keep one browser tab and the Console open; save and refresh after each change. Your instructor will release the reference solution after an attempt.
L1. Practice feedback (10 min)
Add feedback after each practice response. Test a correct answer, a wrong answer, and a timeout.
Success: Three distinct messages; feedback never enters accuracy counts.
Hint (after an attempt): Read the last direction-task row, not simply the last arbitrary row.
L2. Mapping groups (10 min)
Run ?group=A and ?group=B. Predict both keys from the central arrow.
Success: Instructions, correct key, and group data agree.
Hint (after an attempt): The URL carries assignment; it does not balance your participant groups.
L3. Bounded repetition (10 min)
Replace the loop placeholder with failure AND attempts-below-maximum. Inspect the current attempt filter.
Success: At most three attempts; exactly 3⁄4 correct passes.
Hint (after an attempt): Start at attempt 1; increment the counter only when the loop decides to repeat. The summary updates practicePassed.
Before moving on
Explain one changed line to a partner and inspect the relevant saved row. Record the first unresolved error rather than copying an entire replacement script.
Download this meeting’s starter files, or use the matching folder in the whole student course download.
A small example before the full task
Use the predict–run–explain practice sheet and the editable examples in the browser slides. Each isolates one idea, shows the resulting data, and includes an independent transfer question.
