Experiment ideas that fit this course

Each option is a small teaching prototype, not a validated instrument or full replication. Start with a complete minimal version and inspect its data before adding features.

Family Minimal task Building blocks Limitation to discuss
Choice reaction time Choose a key for one of two shapes HTML/image keyboard response Device latency and anticipation
Stroop/flanker Respond to ink/central arrow, ignoring distractors Condition labels, practice, keyboard response Item balance, mapping, color access
Lexical decision Decide word/nonword HTML keyboard response and item table Language proficiency, frequency, length, nonword quality
Self-paced reading Advance through sentence segments, then answer a question Repeated keyboard trials and comprehension response Segment construction and interpretation of segment RT
Recognition memory Study words, then judge old/new items Study/test blocks and separate lists Lure selection, false alarms versus misses
Visual search Find a target in a small static array Prepared images or HTML/CSS layout Set size and target position balance
Judgment/decision Compare options or rate a statement Button/slider response and item order Wording and scale use
Learning from feedback Learn two simple shape categories Feedback and practice/test phases Feedback changes behavior; enough observations needed
Ratings + task Rate plausibility, then perform a small task Button ratings or survey plugin Question wording and carryover
Mouse trajectories Choose living/nonliving from a common start point Button response + mouse extension Geometry, device, irregular event sampling

Ratings, recognition, and reading are feasible project options, not extra required workshops. A button-based rating scale works with the included plugins. Slider/survey plugins need an explicitly compatible package and a pilot. A reflective judgment need not inherit an RT task’s deadline.

Keep webcam gaze, adaptive staircases, very brief masked priming, synchronized media, real-time multi-person interaction, physiological devices, and custom computer vision outside the beginner core. They require additional engineering or measurement validation. Simplify a paper’s procedure rather than promising an equivalent implementation.

Read a paper’s method, identify one trial sequence and critical manipulation, then complete the paper-to-prototype worksheet. A public citation is enough; the anonymous survey does not need uploaded PDFs.
